Nuptials & Babies: A Love Story
Unbeknownst to Sam and Drew’s closest friends and family, the couple had already been secretly married for 2 years by civil marriage ceremony, before finally moving forward with their formal wedding day planning! Needless to say, their ceremony officiant, and dear friend, Alma would have the pleasure of informing everyone that validating the marriage by reading the usual legal texts would be unnecessary, and reveal their big secret, given that she was a witness for their civil marriage ceremony! The audience reactions were a blast to document, and a joy to capture for their memory of this special day in their love story.
It was priority for Sam and Drew to include their three adorable littles in the daytime portion of their wedding day, so it made perfect sense for me to begin the day at their home to document their bride and groom preparation, with the whole family getting ready together. Before loading the kids into their car seats, and heading to Restaurant L’Ambroisie, we savoured a few minutes by the front window to exhale for some intimate wedding day portraits. The late afternoon light at the venue offered a perfect glow for a super fun urban wedding party photo session in the parking lot, before the outdoor ceremony took hold. To say the least, the warm weather was a gift for late September in Montreal. Iykyk.
After dinner, a few evocative speeches, and a short but sweet cutting of Sam’s homemade red velvet wedding cake, transitioning to the dance party would commence with la danse des chausettes de l’aîné célibataire, the french canadian customary dance of the unwed older sibling fulfilled by Sam’s brother, who was made to wear a pair of festive socks, knitted by his mom in a knitting circle. Next, Sam & Drew melted into each other to the sound of “True love will find you in the end,” by Daniel Johnston for their first dance, followed by a rich playlist of lively tunes by their dj friend, Matthieu, sending eveyone onto the floor for dancing shenanigans under a sparkly disco ball.
Considering Drew’s vows mentioned the fact that he never expected to get married, let alone have kids, this joyous celebration of love attended by their dearest people was testament to the start of a truly beautiful thing that was meant to be. Grateful to have been privileged to do this for them. ♡
