Four New WPJA Diamond Awards for Engagement Portraits

Valerie Rosen Photography has been recognized for four (4) new “Diamond Awards for Engagement Portraits” by the Wedding Photojournalists Association [WPJA] and we couldn’t be more grateful! The first three of these photos were created during “Discovery” photo sessions, as part of their Full Day Documentary Wedding Photography plan, the last one was from a special engagement session request.

These fun engagement photo sessions are an easygoing, unscripted one hour session in a location that might be meaningful to the couple, and serve as a light-hearted opportunity for us to hang out with my cameras, and discover a comfortable flow in our developing relationship of working together. By the time the wedding day rolls around, we just pick up where we left off, so they can feel supported and know they can rely on me throughout their wedding day.

Thrilled to share these heartwarming images of love with you! Thanks for viewing!

Awarded Photos #1-2 (below): Varvara & Alex wanted to meet up for their session at Parc Jarry in Montreal, where they hold sweet memories of some of their early dates. On the day of their session, the weather promised rain, but both of their jobs wouldn’t enable them to change the date, so they decided to chance it. Although, the sun never came out, and the sky remained a flat white throughout the session, it never ended up raining to our amazement, and they had the best time. But, it became clear that they’d have the best time together doing just about anything, and nothing, just about anywhere!

Love their connection! Can’t wait to document V&A’s intimate wedding ceremony for them, later this year!

Awarded Photo #3 (below): Caitlin & Winston really wanted to have snow on the ground for their session, so they reached out to secure their date for late Spring in Old Montreal. We agreed on meeting early in the day, when we could make use of the crisp morning light. This adorable candid moment happened at the start of their session. Later in the year, it was a joy to document their beautiful golf club wedding in Arundel, Quebec, and now they’re first year parents! Such a lucky little girl!

Awarded Photo #4 (below): When Amanda & Devan sent me their enquiry for their engagement session, they had a specific request to meet at Maison Lavande in Saint-Eustache, Quebec for their photo session. They fell in love with the location online, knowing they wanted to use some of the photos for their wedding, and decided they’d do the drive from the Vermont, (USA) and treat themselves to a little photo adventure across the border.

Although it would be about an hour’s drive out of town for me, I jumped at the chance, given that I’d been wanting do a session there for a while. Amanda had even ordered a dress online to complement the lavender fields. Adorable! Despite the 35C heat, we were gifted a gentle breeze, and the 1 hour session worked out exactly as we’d all hoped. Thrilled to discover that this photo is the 2nd photo from that session to receive an award!

Truly grateful to WPJA for this honour, and to say the least, many thanks to these wonderful couples for trusting me and my creative process! ♡
